Just out of Hilltown, before you come to Spelga Dam are the 3 peaks of Hen, Cock and Misken Mountains. The rocky summit of Hen is the first peak you see after leaving Hilltown, theres a small farm track on the right that can be used as a start point for climbing these 3 small peaks..
This is the very edge of the mournes and has some fantastic views accross the low lands over Hilltown and Rathfriland. Below and to the right the beginnings of the river Bann can be seen (you'll need to cross this before you start your climb).
The top of Hen mountain is made up of 4 rocky Tor's Summit Tor (354m) South Tor, The Tower and West Tor.
The climb up to the sadle of Cock Mountain can be seen on the left whilstJimmer D and Johnny take in the view one more time before moving on.
Looking back down towards Hen mountain, the climb up Cock Mountain can be very decieving although only short it is very steep all the way up, Jimmer D on the right wished known before about the steep bit he would have gone to the pub for a pint of Guinness instead.
Johnny crac's some wise remark as Jimmer looks back at the tiny Hen mountain below.
From the top of Cock mountain it doesen't look to steep coming up from the spelga dam side. if only Jimmer had known, we could have come up that way.....
Jimmer D and Drew on top of Misken before they decend back to the road. Hen Mountain to the right with Cock looming over it on the left..
