Slieve Gullion | Height:- 576m / 1,889ft | Summit Grid Ref:- TBC
On a cold frosty Boxing day morning still with the inevitable hang over from a great Christmas we set off to conquer the summit of Slieve Gullion. A quarter of the way up we come across an old Vauxhall Astra that's been gutted and painted in the orange and white of Armagh.
The damp clouds, a slight wind from the east and freezing temperatures have created some amazing ice crystal formations and made the rocks look fantastic (this has to be one of the best pictures that i have ever taken).
Near the summit the mountain plateau and with the sun only just poking through the clouds you can get a real feeling for what the weather was like.
With the summit Trig point insite through the haze the weather offers a brief window for a couple of quick snaps down into the low lands out towards Jonesbrough.
The summit reached is a time for celebration and a quick photo in the walkers shelter before we head back down.
The lake at the top is calm this morning and looks particularly eerie with the frozon ground around it.
More people attempting the summit, don't think they'll get much further the pull of the pub is to much to bear for Jimmer "D" and family.
Looking down towards Camlough the weather is finally clearing.
One last photo of Ali now off home for a warm up and a couple of cold ones.
