Park in the small car park just off the Trassy road near fofanny Dam, The wee note on the stile details the tragic loss of Glen the rescue dog who went missing up in these hills. Wanted today by the goverment he survives as a dog of fortune, if you need rescued and you know where to find him maybe you can hire the Glen team.......
Any way enough of that, follow the path up the valley between Slieve Meelmore and Slieve Meelbeg, the pah runs parallel to a small stream and another granite wall. As the stream runs over the xposed rock it creates some fantastic ice casscade during the colder weather.
Before the wall reaches the top of the valley itbreaks left up towards Slieve Meelmore. Continue on and to the right if you want to summit slieve Meelbeg. After a steep climb it meets the mourne wall time for a cup of tea in the shelter of the wall before the last small push to the summit.
The Intersection with the mourne wall is ideal for a tea break after the steep climb from the bottom. Slieve Meelbeg can be seen cover in snow with the mourne wall running up it .
From the Junction with the mourne wall its about 250m of easy climbing along the wall.
There are great views over to Slieve Bearnagh, the exposed side of the wall forms fantastic snow formations as the freezing temperatures turn the water in the wind to ice.
The above are taken from the summit on what should have beena nice bright summers day, the return journey to the car along the base of the mountain was one of the wettest walks of my life.
